Cabin Information - read first!

PGBRS volunteers manage six backcountry cabins in partnership with BC Parks and Recreation Sites and Trails BC, and we rely on the community to help us with maintenance, minor repairs and general upkeep.  Please read the following important information carefully before using these cabins, and we greatly appreciate your help in keeping the cabins in great shape!

Cabin use

Cabins are unlocked and kept open.  They are open for day use and emergencies, but staying overnight is reserved only for those who have a booking through PGBRS.org.

Free refund 10 days in advance. No refunds less than 10 days ahead, no exceptions.

Checkout is 11AM. Clean up gear if you are daytripping away from the cabin for the day.

No smoking or vaping in cabins.

Cabins are not for commercial use without explicit permission from the PGBRS and RSTBC or BC Parks. Please read the commercial use policy.

Dogs are not allowed in Grizzly Den, Raven Lake and Eight Mile cabins. They are allowed in the other cabins, however, it is important that they are managed to keep the cabins clean and avoid disturbing wildlife.

Cabin access

Road access to cabins in the winter varies depending on who is using the roads.  PGBRS does not receive information on ploughing and cannot advise on the status of roads in the winter. Some of the cabins are located on gravel roads that can be rough and/or muddy depending on the time of year. PGBRS cannot advise on road conditions.

All cabins are located in terrain that is subject to avalanches in winter.  If using the cabins during winter conditions, ensure that your entire group is adequately trained and equipped for safe travel in avalanche terrain.

Food and water

When you leave the cabin, do NOT leave any food whatsoever.  This includes empty wine bottles and canned food.  Food attracts animals such as mice and pine marten, and we’ve had to fix major cabin damage in the past due to food being left by guests.  Food that is left behind has to be either packed out by volunteers or flown out.  During your stay, we recommend storing your food in metal bins outside (where available) or in rodent-proof bags.

Propane stoves are for cooking only. Ensure proper ventilation in the cabin during their use, and make sure that the valves on the propane bottles are CLOSED when you check out.

Please treat all water before consumption (either filter or boil).

Dispose of all grey water in the outhouse pit.

Wood stoves

Please burn only paper and wood in the wood stoves.  All cabins have the newer type of stoves with catalytic burners.  These stoves can get gummed up if anything else is burned in them.

Please use firewood sparingly. Firewood is flown to our cabins via helicopter at great expense. Outdoor fires are not permitted.

Please do not chop wood inside the cabin or on the deck. Use the chopping blocks away from the cabin.

Mountain caribou

Our cabins are located in mountain caribou habitat. Caribou can be encountered anywhere along trails and above treeline.  In the winter, they tend to be found in small groups at high-elevations. Caribou calving occurs between May 1 to June 30.  Cows and calves are especially sensitive to disturbance during this time.

Avoid interacting with caribou. If you encounter them, ensure dogs are kept on leash and under control at all times, and move away from the caribou and avoid the area.

When you leave...

Please make sure cabin is squeaky clean for the next guests!

Take all of your food and garbage with you. Do not leave anything behind!

Make sure wood and kindling are available for next guests.

Make sure valves on propane cannisters are closed tightly.

Make sure windows and shutters are closed.

Make sure door is closed and latched securely.

If you notice anything that needs to be repaired or addressed, please report it to PGBRS ([email protected]). Thanks for reading and we hope you enjoy your stay!
